Paula BaconPaula Bacon: Former Mayor of Kaufman, TX where one of the nation's last horse slaughter plants operated until 2007. Mayor Bacon was instrumental in drawing attention to the plant's numerous environmental violations and its negative impact upon the community, leading to the unanimous decision by the City's judicial board to close the plant. She has traveled to Washington, D.C. numerous times to lobby for passage of a federal ban on horse slaughter in the U.S.
Dr Nena WinandNena Winand DVM, PhD: Senior research associate in the department of Molecular Medicine, Cornell University.  An equine veterinarian, equestrian and horse owner, Dr. Winand is also a founding member of Veterinarians for Equine Welfare (VEW). Through VEW, Nena and other veterinarians aim to educate politicians and laymen about equine welfare, issues relating to horse slaughter.  VEW strongly advocates for proper treatment of horses, providing information on humane options for those who can no longer care for their horses.
Laura Allen: Founder and executive director of Laura AllenAnimal Law Coalition. She has been a trial and appellate attorney for more than 20 years, practicing in several state and federal courts. She is a member of the Bar of the U.S. Supreme Court, several professional associations, and advisor to animal welfare organizations. Ms. Allen has lobbied for the passage of legislation to ban horse slaughter in the United States and has drafted state resolutions to support that effort.
John Holland: Acclaimed researcher and widelyJohn Holland published author on the subject of equine welfare and horse slaughter, John Holland is recognized as the senior analyst for American's Against Horse Slaughter, Co Founder of EWA. His white paper A Study of the Relationship Between Horse Slaughter and Reported Cases of Abuse and Neglect, released in January 2006 is the only definitive study of its kind to date. Mr. Holland received the national “Heart and Soul” award in 2005 from United Animal Nations for his work to rescue horses and to stop horse slaughter.
Ginger KathrensGinger Kathrens: Emmy Award-winning producer, writer, cinematographer, editor, as well as an award-winning author. Gunger's documentary filmmaking trips have taken her to Africa, Asia, Europe, Central and South America and all over the U.S. She filmed and produced the acclaimed Cloud: Wild Stallion of the Rockies and Cloud’s Legacy: The Wild Stallion Returns, and Cloud: Challenge of the Stallions for WNET’s Nature series on PBS. Ginger’s revealing journey with wild horses has been compared to Jane Goodall’s experiences with Chimpanzees. Her documentation of Cloud represents the only continuing chronicle of a wild animal from birth in our hemisphere. Kathrens was the co-producer and cinematographer of the two-hour Discovery Channel special, Spirits of the Rainforest, which won two Emmy Awards including one for Best Documentary.
Dr Nick DodmanNicholas DodmanBVMS, MRCVS, DACVA, DACVB: A world renown board certified veterinary behaviorist and anesthesiologist. He received his veterinary education in Scotland and at the age of 26, he became the youngest veterinary faculty member in Britain. He is currently a professor at Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine and founder of their Animal Behavior Clinic. He is the author of four best selling books in addition to veterinary textbooks and more than 100 articles and contributions to scientific books and journals. He is a founding member of the Veterinarians for Equine Welfare (VEW) and a member of the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Dodman has testified before Congress and has given extensive interviews with reference to the passage of legislation to prevent the inhumane transport and slaughter of horses.
Shelley Abrams: Founder of "Horses Helping Shelley AbramsHorses", Co-Founder of Americans Against Horse Slaughter and owner of Smarty's Gift Stable. Shelley was instrumental in initiating a retirement program at Philadelphia Park Race Track resulting in Turning For Home. She is also a Board Member of Animal Fairy Charities and Animal Advocate Television.
Paul Sorvino: Actor; famous for his imposing rolePaul Sorvino as mob boss "Paulie Cicero" in Goodfellas, his on the money portrayal of Henry Kissinger in Nixon, and his role as "Fulgencio Capulet" in Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet. Sorvino is also recognized for his role as "Sergeant Phil Cerreta" in the hit TV show Law and Order.  Sir Paul has committed himself to helping to spread awareness about the evils of horse slaughter.
Dr Elliot KatzDr. Elliot Katz, graduate of Cornell Veterinary School, founded In Defense of Animals (IDA) in 1983. “In Defense of Animals' objectives are to stop the round ups, keep the horses on their home range, end the senseless killing of all equines and do all in our power to return the rounded-up horses to the home range where they truly belong.” – Dr Elliot Katz. Over the past 25 years, under Dr. Katz’s leadership, IDA has been at the forefront of the struggle for animal protection, and has won many precedent-setting victories for the animals.
Michael BlakeMichael Blake is an award winning author and screenwriter, best known for his work, DANCES WITH WOLVES, which became a 7- Academy Award winning movie. Blake also took home The Golden Globe, The Silver Spur and The WGA Award for his work on DANCES WITH WOLVES. One of Blake’s more recent books, is his Memoir called TWELVE THE KING, brings to light the reality of Horse Slaughter and the spirit of one wild horse stallion who survived it.
Berverly StraussBeverly Strauss: Beverly Strauss is the Co Founder of MidAtlantic Horse Rescue. She’s a lifelong horsewoman, former racehorse trainer and owner. Bev has been rescuing thoroughbreds from kill pens at livestock auctions for years; working with them and places them into new homes as riding horses and sport horses. Through MidAtlantic Horse Rescue Beverly has rescued and placed over 400 thoroughbreds directly, as well as saving another 500+ thoroughbreds for other rescues.
Nick ZitoNick Zito: Hall of fame Thoroughbred Trainer, Nick had his first career win at Philadelphia Liberty Bell in December 1972 and since then he has saddled 2 Kentucky Derby winners, 1 Kentucky Oaks winner, 1 Preakness Stakes winner, 2 Belmont Stakes winners, and trained 3 Eclipse award winning champions. He has won nearly every big stakes race there is in America. Nick has been a very outspoken horse advocate, especially racehorses. He currently sits on the advisory board of The Kentucky Equine Humane Center. The organization's policy of humane euthanasia instead of slaughter is one that Nick stands behind 100 %.
Paul RainbirdPaul Rainbird:1st Lt. Governor of San Ildefonso Pueblo, Former Chief Judge and Planning Director and Economic Development Coordinator for the Pueblo of Nambe, New Mexico. He is a Consultant and Business owner of Rainbird Consulting/First Nations Telecom he worked with Nambe Pueblo as a Tribal Planner to coordinating a Cultural Festival in Santa Fe and he presently works with his tribe, San Ildefonso Pueblo, as an advisor and coordinator of tribal programs and projects. Other duties include Liaison with the Tribes Corp.
Susan WagnerSue Wagner: Founder of Equine Advocates and undercover investigator, recipient of the Equine Protection Award from the New York State Humane Association. Through Equine Advocates she established Safe Home Equine Rescue & Sanctuary, and opened a Humane Education Center for equines in Chatham, New York. Susan Wagner and Equine Advocates received a Congressional Citation by Congressman Scott Murphy of New York’s 20th District in recognition for their commitment to equine advocacy and promoting the humane and responsible treatment of horses.

Sandi Claypool: Co -Founder of Monero Mustangs, NM, a 5,000 acre sanctuary for wild horses. She has approx 75 rescued wild mustangs mostly from El Rito, NM but some also come in after being rounded up by the BLM in other states.  The mustangs on the Ranch have gradually come to accept and trust us as part of their herd. That will be evident if you visit us at the Ranch. Each horse is known to us as an individual. Their names, relatives and history are often known as well. Each has a unique personality and family bonds.

Ila Bromberg: Co -Founder of Monero Mustangs, and she also an archeologist. Ila’s passion is the study of wild horses and their heritage in the North America’s. She’s especially passionate about Spanish Mustangs and their contribution to the history of our country.

Patience O'Dowd: Founder of Wild Horse Observers Association (WHOA). WHOA works to protect and preserve the remaining wild horses in New Mexico as well as others across the US. Patience/ WHOA has worked legislatively to pass a bill declaring free roaming horses which are not domestic, to be declared legally New Mexico State's wild horses. As such they are regulated wild animals of the state not under the jurisdiction of the Fish and Game department and also not under the jurisdiction of the NM Livestock Board.  WHOA has worked to pass a host of Memorials asking the BLM, Forest Service, and Native American Nations in New Mexico to utilize their free roaming/wild horses for Equine Eco-Tourism.
Dr. Lisa Jacobson: Equine veterinarian, owner ofDr. Jacobson Big Sky Equine Veterinary Services, President of Montana Horse Sanctuary. Having been actively involved in the equine world for the last 40 years, Dr. Jacobson’s life has always revolved around horses. As an equine veterinarian, she has been lucky enough to work on some of the country’s most valuable equids as well as the treasured backyard pony. Her opposition to “the horse slaughter system” became known as she vocally opposed legislation that unfortunately became law in the state of Montana in 2009.
Valerie James-Patton: Researcher in the fight Valerie James-Pattonagainst horse slaughter since 2003. Valerie has participated in fact-checking dozens of "abandoned horse" articles by going to the government, corporate and private sources sighted. Her report, “Deleting the Fiction”, definitively exposed and documented a trail of gross disinformation and deceit in major publications. During another investigation of the Sheldon Wildlife Sanctuary Ms. Patton was able to help expose that their supposed "mass adopters" had close ties to the horse slaughter industry.
